Project
Alzheimer's Disease Diagnosis Based on Optical Coherence Tomography (and Angiography) Scans and Deep Learning
This project, supported by TÜBİTAK ARDEB 1001 program, is a collaborative effort between Istanbul Technical University and S.B.Ü. Antalya Training and Research Hospital. The project aims to investigate the relationship between Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) and Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) using Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) and Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography (OCTA) scans. Through this research, we aim to identify novel biomarkers for the early diagnosis of these conditions.
In this study, OCT/OCTA scans will be collected from volunteer patients and a healthy control group, anonymized, and used to build a dataset. By analyzing this dataset with artificial intelligence algorithms, we aim to develop methods to identify early indicators of AD and MCI. The project will create a comprehensive analysis framework using AI-driven approaches to support the early diagnosis of AD and MCI.
Key Objectives:
- Build an anonymized dataset with OCT and OCTA scans from volunteer patients and a healthy control group.
- Develop a model that utilizes state-of-the-art AI techniques to analyze 3D OCT and OCTA data for AD and MCI diagnosis.
- Discover new biomarkers with potential clinical relevance through explainable classification results.
This project is planned for 30 months and will be completed through collaboration between experts in neurology and artificial intelligence.
